If you know me, you know how much I love dogs, but mostly, my puppy, Baloo. He’s the first dog that Josiah and I got together. I still remember the conversation that decided we were going to take Baloo home. It was six months after we got married and my friend asked if I wanted a puppy. She mentioned that her friend’s dog accidentally got pregnant and she had a litter of eight she was trying to find homes for. The minute I saw the puppy pictures, I wanted one! I showed Josiah and he said we could go look at the puppies that weekend. Baloo was the only black dog of the litter. For some odd reason, no one wanted him. He was so sweet and was frolicking on the grass and running around on his own. I knew I wanted him the second I laid my eyes on him. I looked at Josiah and gave him the ‘please, can I have him?’ eyes and needless to say, Baloo was ours. (He was my birthday present!)
As I celebrate his first birthday, I’m taking a trip down memory lane with some of Baloo’s ‘firsts.’ He’s naughty sometimes and, unfortunately, is a sensitive-health pup, but I love him so much and couldn’t imagine my life without him. He’s the sweetest, friendliest dog you’ll ever meet. He’s derpy and silly, but his heart is so full of love. Happy birthday my baby bear! I’m so thankful you came into my life a year ago. We love you so much!

Last, but not least, Baloo’s first birthday!
I wanted to make Baloo’s first birthday really special by baking him his own mini cake (in this cake two mini muffin-sized cakes). As I mentioned before, Baloo is a sensitive pup so we have to be very careful in what we feed him. I didn’t want to buy a cake from a dog bakery because I was worried some of the ingredients might upset his stomach. So I did a little baking in the kitchen, and ended up with a scrumptious 5-ingredient grain-free cake that Baloo devoured within a minute! You can make one mini cake or two regular sized ‘muffin’ cakes. Hope you enjoy!
